Job Description
Pick n Pay is seeking a dedicated and skilled Sushi Chef to join its vibrant team in Sea Point, Western Cape. This role is perfect for an individual passionate about culinary arts, particularly Japanese cuisine, and committed to delivering exceptional quality and service. As a Sushi Chef, you will be responsible for the meticulous preparation and presentation of a wide array of sushi products, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of hygiene, food safety, and customer satisfaction. You will play a crucial role in the daily operations of the food retail section, from managing stock levels and conducting quality checks to engaging with customers and contributing to sales promotions. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and wrap products according to specifications, ensuring consistency and high quality.
- Ensure that hygiene, housekeeping, and safe working standards are maintained in both the floor and back-up areas.
- Ensure that security procedures are adhered to diligently.
- Conduct regular quality checks and ensure that stock is rotated effectively to minimise waste.
- Prevent wastage, shrinkage, and damages through careful handling and monitoring.
- Complete all relevant administration and documentation accurately and on time.
- Plan and implement engaging sales promotions to drive product visibility and sales.
- Approach and advise customers on the product range, actively listen to their requests, provide the required product or services, and handle all interactions in a courteous and businesslike manner.
- Monitor budgets (expenses, turnover, gross) and take required action to meet financial targets.
- Optimise stock levels, ensuring products are always in stock without being overstocked, through effective ordering and efficient handling of returns.
- Plan daily/weekly production of products (if applicable) based on demand and sales forecasts.
- Communicate effectively with employees, management, customers, and suppliers to ensure smooth operations.
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained in effective working order and operated in accordance with laid down standards.
- Manage employees to ensure standards are maintained by competent, motivated employees, fostering a positive team environment.

Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 / NQF 4.
- Experience / training in foods retail and management of resources.
- 1 year of Sushi experience.
- Experience in cutting and filleting fish.
- Demonstrated ability in: Preparing of all fish related products, Broad knowledge of fish.
- Achieving results through others.
- Plan, organize and follow up on activities and plans.
- Adhere to standards and policies.
- Customer Orientation.
- Communication skills – clearly conveying message and actively listening.
