This programme is designed to equip individuals with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to excel in a pharmacy environment, specifically focusing on the responsibilities associated with working as a pharmacist assistant. Participants will gain invaluable hands-on experience within a leading retail pharmacy chain in South Africa, contributing to patient care and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
• Assisting with the preparation and compounding of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Unpacking and merchandising dispensary stock, ensuring proper rotation and presentation.
• Cleaning dispensary and over-the-counter shelves to maintain a hygienic and organised workspace.
• Learning how to interpret prescriptions accurately and efficiently.
• Picking, packing and labelling medication accurately, adhering to strict safety protocols.
• Ensuring medication is checked and signed off by a qualified pharmacist before dispensing.
• Assisting with stock control for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines, including regular audits.
• Monitoring medicine expiry dates and shelf organisation to prevent waste and ensure product integrity.
• Following up with patients regarding prescription tracking and appointment reminders.
• Assisting with patient service telephone calls, providing professional and courteous support.
• Providing health-related information to customers under the guidance of a pharmacist.
• Assisting with medical scheme authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medication.
• Reporting low or out-of-stock items and stock discrepancies to management.
• Receiving dispensary stock in accordance with company procedures, verifying deliveries.
• Performing other duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager to support daily operations.
