Job Description
Eskom is seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Turbine Engineer to join its Peaking Operating Unit, focusing on the performance and reliability of hydro turbines and associated plant systems. This role is perfectly suited for an engineering graduate who has successfully completed a comprehensive training programme or an engineer with up to two years of relevant experience, eager to specialize in turbine engineering within a critical power generation context. The successful candidate will be instrumental in optimizing plant performance, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing sustainable engineering solutions to ensure the efficient and safe operation of Eskom's hydro assets. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to deepen expertise in mechanical and mechatronic engineering principles, plant reliability, and asset management, while contributing to the national energy supply. You will work within a team of dedicated professionals, applying national and international engineering codes and best practices to complex challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Optimise allocated plant performance and reliability through expert engineering interventions.
- Identify, investigate and resolve problematic plant issues, ensuring long-term solutions.
- Perform root cause analyses and implement sustainable engineering solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Manage plant modifications and engineering improvements, adhering to strict quality and safety standards.
- Execute and coordinate engineering projects, from planning to successful completion.
- Provide technical advice and support to operations and maintenance teams, fostering a culture of excellence.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, statutory requirements and governance processes.
- Conduct engineering assessments and performance evaluations of hydro turbines and associated plant systems.
- Provide engineering support across the Peaking Operating Unit's generation portfolio, including operating plant, new build assets and associated technologies, as required to achieve business objectives.

Requirements
- BSc Eng/BEng Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering (NQF Level 8, 480 credits)
- Completed engineering graduate training programme or two years' related engineering experience
- Registered as an ECSA Candidate Engineer
