Job Description
Sasol, a global leader in chemicals and energy, is seeking dedicated individuals to join their Emergency Management team in Secunda as Fire Fighters in Training.
The purpose of this role is to protect Sasol’s high-value assets and personnel against the adverse consequences of SHERQ-related (Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality) emergency incidents. This position follows a structured career path, where successful candidates can progress from "Fire Fighter in Training" up to "Leading Fire Fighter" based on experience and the attainment of specific technical qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Response: React appropriately to emergency situations to mitigate risks to people and property.
Maintenance & Servicing: Recondition firefighting and life support equipment; service portable firefighting equipment located in plants and buildings.
Safety & Compliance: Apply SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) best practices during all emergency management activities.
Training & Fitness: Participate in rigorous training sessions to ensure the mental and physical fitness required for incident handling.
Process Improvement: Identify and propose improvements to emergency maintenance activities and overall service delivery.
Housekeeping: Maintain clean and safe working environments within the emergency management facilities.
Advantageous Qualifications (Wish List)
While not mandatory for the "Training" entry level, having the following will be highly beneficial:
Fire Fighter 1 & 2 (NFPA 1001).
Hazmat Awareness and Operations (NFPA 1072/472).
Current registration with HPCSA as a Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA/BLS) or Intermediate Life Support (ILS).
Valid First Aid Level 3 certificate.
Requirements
Grade 12 with Mathematics or equivalent qualification
Medically fit, according to relevant Fire Fighter fitness level assessment
0-5 years relevant experience
