This position focuses on leveraging agricultural technology, optimizing existing farm systems, conducting in-depth data analysis, monitoring financial performance, and driving continuous process improvements across the estate's diverse operations. As a Junior Operations Engineer, you will collaborate closely with a team of engineers, offering mutual support in problem-solving, implementation, data analysis, and ongoing enhancement initiatives. The core objective is to empower Babylonstoren's farm and garden teams through the strategic application of technology, data-driven insights, financial analysis, and robust process improvements. You will be instrumental in understanding current processes, making data more accessible and actionable, assisting with technology deployment, and embedding sustainable improvements into daily operations. A significant aspect of this role involves utilizing and refining existing farm systems to continuously monitor the profitability of various agricultural activities. The engineer must be adept at connecting operational data with costs, yields, resource utilization, and overall financial performance, ensuring that every decision is informed and impactful.
Key Responsibilities
- Agricultural Technology and Data Analysis: Collaborate with the farm team to understand processes, data streams, and decision-making needs. Identify opportunities for better use of technology and data in planning, execution, and follow-up. Assist in implementing and improving systems that support precision agriculture, cost savings, and enhanced resource utilization. Analyze data related to production, labor, yield, input costs, time expenditure, and resource usage. Develop straightforward reports, dashboards, and metrics to visualize operational performance. Support managers with data-driven insights for improved decision-making. Document data streams, processes, and improvements for sustainable use.
- Existing Farm Systems and Profitability Monitoring: Utilize system data to analyze activities, labor, water, pesticides, costs, and yields. Identify trends, deviations, inefficiencies, and cost-saving opportunities. Help visualize profitability per farm activity, block, crop, or workflow. Develop and improve reports, dashboards, and metrics for decision-making. Enhance the accuracy, completeness, and usability of data within existing systems. Financial analysis will be a key part of the role; the candidate must be comfortable linking operational data to costs, yields, and profitability.
- Horticultural Technology and Process Improvement: Work with the garden team to understand daily operations, challenges, and needs. Identify opportunities where technology, improved processes, or digital tools can support the garden team. Assist in implementing technology for garden maintenance, task management, planning, follow-up, and reporting. Improve processes around work planning, accountability, prioritization, routine maintenance, and communication.
- General Process Improvement and Implementation: Map current and future work processes within the farm and garden environments. Identify bottlenecks, waste, recurring problems, and opportunities for optimization.
