Key Responsibilities
- Conducting thorough and meticulous pre-donation assessments of prospective blood donors, which includes a comprehensive medical history review and accurate vital sign checks.
- Performing venepuncture with utmost precision, care, and adherence to sterile techniques, ensuring donor comfort and safety throughout the blood collection process.
- Monitoring donors vigilantly for any signs of adverse reactions during and immediately after donation, providing immediate and appropriate care if necessary.
- Maintaining accurate, confidential, and comprehensive donor records, strictly adhering to all data protection protocols and ethical guidelines.
- Educating donors clearly and effectively on the importance of blood donation, the donation process, and essential post-donation care instructions.
- Ensuring strict compliance with all relevant health, safety, and quality standards set by WCBS and national regulatory bodies.
- Preparing and maintaining all necessary equipment and supplies for blood collection sessions, ensuring readiness and sterility.
- Collaborating effectively and communicating clearly with the entire blood service team to ensure smooth, efficient, and coordinated operations at all donor clinics and mobile drives.
- Actively participating in ongoing training and professional development programmes to stay updated with the latest best practices in blood collection, donor care, and transfusion medicine.
- Contributing to a positive, supportive, and professional environment for both blood donors and colleagues, fostering a culture of empathy and teamwork.

Requirements
- Possession of a Senior Certificate.
- A minimum of a Diploma in Nursing Science.
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Experience in Venepuncture/Phlebotomy.
- Experience in Blood Transfusion.
- A valid, unendorsed driver's license.
- Computer literacy.
