Job Description
Transnet is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Financial Accountant to join its dynamic finance team. This pivotal role involves ensuring the meticulous implementation of financial reporting standards, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the Companies Act, and the internal management accounting/budget system. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in monitoring financial processes, managing inter-company balances, and contributing to the accurate and timely preparation of Transnet’s financial statements. Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the meticulous implementation of financial reporting requirements in terms of International Financial Reporting Standards, the Companies Act, and the management accounting/budget system, including monitoring processes and inter-company balances.
- Prepare Transnet’s notes to the financial statements for IFRS and Companies Act reporting purposes, ensuring timeliness and accuracy. This includes discussing and agreeing on accounting standard and business requirement changes with senior management, the Group Technical team, and external auditors prior to implementation.
- Implement accounting standard and business requirement changes into the Business Warehouse consolidations system (with IT support), leading to updates of notes to the financial statements.
- Engage effectively with external auditors on the audit of the Group consolidation, facilitating a smooth and efficient audit process.
- Continuously monitor and improve the timeliness and accuracy of financial reports for the Finance Team and EXCO Team, specifically Group income statements, statements of financial position, and cash flows. Analyse deviations with relevant finance managers across divisions to ensure accurate reporting from external, management, and statutory perspectives.
- Prepare Transnet’s National Treasury GRAP AFS financial reporting with relevant notes, continuously developing and enhancing these reports for improved timeliness and accuracy.
- Prepare quarterly STATSSA and SARB reports accurately and timeously, implementing innovative ideas to enhance their preparation.
- Prepare the GMTN Base Prospectus, supplements, and quarterly updates accurately and timeously, implementing innovative ideas to enhance these reports.
- Define personal performance goals and monitor new ideas from managers and peers, identifying training and coaching needs to upskill specialist areas. Manage the development of trainee accountants through training, coaching, and identifying strengths and weaknesses.
- Cultivate strong working relationships with other divisions/departments and build positive business relationships with peers and specialists to ensure commitments are delivered within appropriate timeframes. Assist with ad-hoc requests from the Office of the GCFO and other Group requests requiring Group Reporting’s input/completion.

Requirements
- CA(SA) qualification is required.
- Reporting experience is an added advantage.
- Demonstrated trust and honesty in handling finances, as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19.
- Possession of a valid Driver’s license code 08.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required for business purposes.
