Key Performance Areas

They will also support budget monitoring processes and assist in preparing information for financial reports, providing crucial support to municipal departments throughout the budget cycle.
- Annual Financial Statement Preparation: Successful candidates will play a supportive role in the preparation of the municipality's annual financial statements. This involves collecting and verifying financial records, checking supporting documentation for accuracy, preparing detailed schedules, and capturing financial information. Interns will also assist with account reconciliations, organise records for audit purposes, and support the completion of all necessary reporting requirements.
- Supply Chain Management: Interns will gain practical exposure to municipal supply chain management processes. This includes assisting with procurement administration, maintaining meticulous procurement records, processing supporting documentation, and assisting with quotations and bid records. They will also be involved in checking supplier documentation, supporting compliance processes, and filing supply chain documents, with precise duties depending on departmental requirements and supervision.
- Internal Controls: The successful candidates will contribute to internal-control activities aimed at safeguarding municipal resources and enhancing financial accountability. Responsibilities may include checking financial documents for discrepancies, supporting compliance monitoring efforts, identifying missing documentation, and maintaining accurate records. Interns will also assist with control reviews, report any errors or irregularities to supervisors, and support audit preparation.
- Asset Management: Interns will assist with various aspects of municipal asset management. This includes maintaining the municipal asset register, accurately recording newly acquired assets, verifying existing municipal assets, and supporting asset counts. They will also be responsible for updating asset information, filing supporting records, and assisting with asset disposals and transfers where authorised, ensuring the integrity of the municipality's asset base.
- Revenue and Debtor Management: The programme provides exposure to municipal revenue and debtor-management functions. Interns may assist with maintaining debtor records, capturing payment information, and supporting account reconciliations. They will also respond to basic client enquiries, identify outstanding accounts, prepare debtor-related reports, and support revenue collection processes, contributing to the financial health of the municipality.
- Expenditure Management: Finance Interns will assist with expenditure-management processes. This includes checking payment documentation, accurately capturing expenditure information, and maintaining comprehensive payment records. They will also support account reconciliations, monitor allocated expenditure, file invoices and supporting documents, and assist with financial reports, ensuring responsible and transparent spending.

- A National Diploma; or
