Job Description
South African National Parks (SANParks) is offering an exciting EPWP Employment Opportunity for Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitors at the renowned Mapungubwe National Park & World Heritage Site. This fixed-term contract position is designed to provide valuable work experience and contribute to conservation efforts within one of South Africa's most significant natural and cultural landscapes. The role is ideal for individuals passionate about environmental conservation, wildlife security, and park management, seeking to gain practical skills and contribute to the preservation of our natural heritage. This opportunity is part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), aimed at creating employment and developing skills within local communities.
Key Responsibilities
Conducting protected area functions, focusing on maintaining area integrity and wildlife security.
Monitoring and reporting on problem animal situations within the park.
Assisting with ecological monitoring, restoration projects, and invasive alien species clearing initiatives.
Supporting relevant conservation activities as and when required by park management.
Reporting directly to the local section ranger on daily activities and observations.
Assisting with the maintenance of park infrastructure, including fences, water points, and roads.
Participating in natural resource management and contributing to ongoing research projects.
Assisting with field data collection and accurately capturing data onto computer systems.
Performing general administration tasks, including managing timesheets, logbooks, and preparing reports.
Assisting with storeroom organisation, cleaning, and stock-keeping duties.
Engaging in access control activities, managing staff and visitor flow, and ensuring safety and security within the park.
Supporting waste management activities, including collection, disposal, and maintaining park cleanliness.
Assisting with the cleaning and maintenance of living quarters to ensure a safe and habitable environment.
Undertaking all other park management activities as directed by Line Managers.

Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric certificate
Code 08 driver’s license.
Willing to work flexible hours e.g. weekends & after hours.
Proficient in English and one other official language with good written and verbal skills.
Must be in good physical health.
Understanding of basic principles of Health & Safety.
No criminal record – police clearance certificate must be attached with the application or proof of application must be attached.
