Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering exciting Dispensary Support Learnership opportunities for individuals eager to embark on a career in the pharmaceutical sector. This learnership is designed to equip successful candidates with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to complete the learner basic pharmacist assistant course. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical environment, dispensing practices, and the importance of quality learning on the job. This is a fixed-term position, and upon successful qualification as a basic pharmacist assistant and registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), permanent employment may be offered. This program is an excellent stepping stone for those looking to grow within the pharmacy field.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances under supervision.
Support the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Aid in the unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of dispensary and Over-The-Counter (OTC) shelves.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dispensary Manager.
Learn to accurately interpret prescriptions and adhere to legal requirements set by the South African Pharmacy Council.
Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication, understanding common dosages and drug interactions.
Verify that all dispensed medications are accurately checked and signed by a registered pharmacist.
Assist in stock control, including managing shelf organisation, stock rotation, and monitoring expiry dates for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
Follow up with patients regarding script tracking and appointments as directed by the dispensary manager.
Handle call centre scripts and patient service telephone inquiries.
Provide health information to individuals to promote well-being.
Assist with the authorization process for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications.
Report stock discrepancies, low stock levels, or stock errors to the dispensary manager.
Receive dispensary stock in accordance with company SOPs.

Requirements
Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics and Physical Science or Life Science.
Must have obtained at least an average of 50% in Grade 12.
English and a second language – ability to read, write, and speak.
