Tax Officer Full-time Opportunity at Nedbank
Job Description
Nedbank is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Tax Officer to join its team in Durban. This full-time role is crucial for ensuring the bank's compliance with SARS regulations and maintaining accurate tax records. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of tax administrative duties, contributing to the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the institution. This position offers a valuable opportunity for individuals with 1-2 years of experience in tax administration within the financial or banking sector to further develop their expertise in a dynamic corporate environment. The role demands a keen eye for detail, strong reconciliation skills, and a proactive approach to managing tax-related queries and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that agreed dates and standards set by SARS are met by performing a reconciliation of the tax balances, tax register, trial balance and General Ledger accounts.
- Obtain and collate information to complete pre-death, at-date-of-death and post-death taxes.
- Make appointments with SARS and upload supporting documentation to ensure that details are updated with SARS at all times.
- Prepare reconciliation of taxes for review and sign-off by the business by ensuring all work meets the standards for quality, quantity, turnaround times and due dates in line with risk and compliance requirements.
- Maintain data on reporting systems for all clients.
- Remain cost aware and reduce non-value-adding work and waste by reconciling SARS accounts to avoid possible penalties and interest due to SARS.
- Ensure that annual submissions to SARS reconcile and balance back.
- Meet client needs consistently by addressing and resolving all service desk queries either with SARS or eFiling.
- Resolve any outstanding queries and concerns arising from tax-related issues by participating in monthly meetings.
- Build constructive internal relationships and support internal stakeholders from various clusters across the bank on tax compliance issues by advising on the correct treatment of certain payments.
- Ensure that payments are made timeously to SARS by adhering to deadlines and quality standards.
- Perform reconciliation on shares in respect of provision payments to SARS by making use of appropriate resources.

- Ensure compliance with tax law by capturing on eFiling, submitting the return and making payments of the liability according to relevant policies, standards and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and take corrective action when necessary for all payments to SARS by conducting a consolidated reconciliation of the various payments.
- Identify and resolve problems by conducting a post-reconciliation of data to ensure that correct payments are made to entities and SARS according to tax periods.
- Keep abreast of legislation and other industry changes that impact the role by reading relevant newsletters and websites and attending sessions.

Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
- Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
- Preferred: Advanced Diploma or Degree in Accounting and/or Taxation
- Minimum 1–2 years’ tax administrative experience in the financial or banking sector
- Experience with Deceased Estate and Trust taxes is essential
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Administrative procedures and systems
- Understanding of Relevant regulatory knowledge
- Familiarity with Relevant software and systems knowledge
- Basic Banking knowledge and procedures
- Cluster Specific Operational Knowledge
- Understanding of Business principles, terms and definitions
- Knowledge of Governance, Risk and Controls
- Demonstrated Customer Focus and strong Work Standards
- Ability to Collaborate effectively and strong Communication skills
- Proficiency in Managing Work and Building Partnerships
