Sustainability Graduate Internship at Belgotex

Belgotex is offering a valuable Sustainability Graduate Internship opportunity for ambitious individuals looking to gain practical experience in the environmental and safety management field. This internship is designed to support the company's commitment to sustainability and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) goals. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in implementing key initiatives, with a specific focus on waste management, safety communication, and visual management systems. Reporting directly to the Chief Sustainability Officer, this role provides an excellent platform for learning and professional development within a leading organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist SHE Officers and Sustainability Co-ordinators with administrative tasks and ad-hoc duties as assigned by the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO).

• Actively participate in team meetings, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reviews, SHE Committee meetings, and Management Reviews.

• Prepare and distribute meeting minutes and Genchi Genbutsu reports to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.

• Support internal and external SHEQ and legal audits, collaborating with managers to monitor and report on the implementation and closure of corrective and preventative actions to SHE Committees and management.

• Develop and implement effective communication strategies for near misses, incidents, audit findings, preventative actions, and best practices to enhance SHE performance awareness across the business.

• Conduct thorough site assessments of existing safety signage and communication methods.

• Develop a new SHE Communication standard for visual communication and work with stakeholders to implement it, using assessment outcomes as a baseline for improvement.

• Monitor the implementation of the visual communication standard and facilitate necessary improvements.

• Provide guidance to relevant managers on visual communication requirements on a monthly basis.

• Develop and coordinate a monthly Management Walkabout/Genchi Genbutsu schedule and ensure its consistent implementation.

• Support the Sustainability Co-ordinator in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the waste segregation system across production, logistics, and administrative areas.

• Report on compliance with the waste segregation standard on a weekly and monthly basis.

• Guide relevant managers on transitioning to new waste management requirements for the factory, as defined by the Sustainability Co-ordinator and Circularity Specialist.

• Grade 12 (Matric)

• A completed BTech, Diploma or Degree in: Environmental / Safety Management / SHEQ related qualification.

• Computer literate and proficient in MS Office productivity tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication and engagement skills

• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders

• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines

• Maintain a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service

• Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given and standard accepted practices
