Officer Product Control Position at Absa
Job Description
Absa is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Officer Product Control to join its finance team. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of financial data and ensuring accurate reconciliation of general ledger accounts. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of finance processes, providing essential support functions, and contributing to the overall financial control framework of the bank. Key Responsibilities
- Finance Processes and Support Function: Actively participate in various finance processes, providing critical support to ensure smooth operations and accurate financial reporting.
- Product Control Visibility: Maintain clear visibility over product control functions, ensuring all transactions and balances are accurately recorded and reconciled.
- Balance General Ledger Accounts: Regularly balance general ledger accounts, meticulously comparing millennium system enquiries with source reports and information to identify discrepancies.
- Resolve Outstanding Items: Present and resolve outstanding debit items older than a week by raising incident reports, and ensure no outstanding credit items are older than three months, comparing them against specific GL accounts.
- Documentation for Reconciliations: Attach all necessary documentation on month-end reconciliations for approval purposes, ensuring transparency and audit readiness.
- Query Resolution: Efficiently assist with all queries received via telephone or e-mail, identifying trends in the nature of queries to implement corrective procedures and address root causes, forwarding these insights to management.
- Build User Relations: Cultivate strong relationships with users to facilitate query resolution, including meeting with them to understand and address their needs effectively.
- Raise Balancing Incidents: Promptly raise balancing out-of-balance incidents with the Technical teams to ensure timely resolution of system discrepancies.
- Prepare Daily and Monthly Reconciliations: Accurately prepare daily and monthly reconciliations using Excel, saving all relevant recons on the server daily. Ensure month-end reconciliations are completed and signed by the 5th working day of each month, attaching relevant source system reports for approval.
- Adhere to SLAs: Consistently adhere to daily Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with stakeholders, ensuring timely delivery of financial information and support.
- Financial Control Partnership: Adhere strictly to RCSA (Risk & Control Self-Assessment) and AO&R (Account Ownership & Reconciliation) policies, ensuring transactions are processed within SLAs and work standards meet AO&R policy requirements to avoid audit findings.
- Process Optimization: Report any mistakes made, escalate out-of-the-ordinary or 'red flag' situations to management, and forward suggestions for improvement or cost savings. Ensure ad-hoc tasks are performed according to applicable standards.

Requirements
- NQF level 4: Grade 12.
- English speaking.
- 12 months experience in a similar role.
- Proficiency in telephone communication.
- Solid knowledge of accounting principles.
- Familiarity with CAMS product.
- Proficiency in the Millenium system.
- Understanding of EOS listings.
- Knowledge of interfaces between CAMS and GL.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Strong personal organisation and time management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
