Job Description
Garlicke & Bousfield Inc. is offering a valuable Legal Graduate Intern opportunity within its 2027 Graduate Workplace Experience Programme, operating under the Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme. This 12-month fixed-term contract is designed for unemployed law graduates aged 18 to 35, aiming to provide them with essential practical skills and meaningful workplace experience in the legal sector. Successful candidates will work alongside experienced legal practitioners, gaining exposure to the day-to-day operations of a leading law firm. This programme is distinct from the firm's Candidate Attorney Programme and does not fulfil the requirements for admission as an attorney. The role commences in January 2027 and is based in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal. This initiative is part of a broader South African government effort to combat youth unemployment by fostering employability through structured work placements.
Key Responsibilities
Assist legal practitioners with case preparation and research.
Draft legal documents, correspondence, and reports under supervision.
Attend client meetings and court proceedings as required.
Manage and organize case files and legal documentation.
Conduct legal research on various matters.
Provide administrative support to the legal team.
Gain exposure to different areas of legal practice.
Adhere to firm policies and professional conduct standards.

Requirements
Completed, or on track to complete, an LLB degree by December 2026.
Currently unemployed and seeking workplace experience in the legal profession.
Aged between 18 and 35 years.
Must not have previously participated in the YES Programme.
Must be a South African citizen.
Reside in or around Durban and be able to commute to Umhlanga daily.
Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
Computer literate, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
