Job Description
The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is seeking a motivated and skilled Junior Full-Stack Developer to join their dynamic Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS) department. This permanent position, based at the Bellville Campus in Cape Town, offers a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a passion for software development to contribute to the university's technological advancements. The role involves supporting the development, integration, and deployment of web, portal, and integrated applications, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, secure, and fully performing systems in compliance with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) principles and CPUT's standards. This is an ideal entry-level role for a recent graduate or someone with up to two years of experience looking to build a career in full-stack development within a reputable academic institution.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain web, portal, and integrated systems according to university standards.
Participate actively in debugging, testing, and peer code review processes to ensure code quality.
Assist with system integration tasks and troubleshoot issues to ensure seamless operation.
Engage in all phases of the SDLC, including testing, troubleshooting, and deployment activities.
Provide essential second-level system support to end-users and technical teams.
Create and maintain comprehensive technical and user documentation for developed systems.
Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the ICTS department.
Collaborate effectively with development teams, support staff, and other stakeholders.

Requirements
Relevant National Diploma, or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Computer Systems
At least two (2) years’ experience in software or web development
Experience with structured software development practices and coding standards
Experience with the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Working experience with PHP or Java
Good understanding of front-end technologies: HTML, CSS and JavaScript
Knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as MySQL, MSSQL or Oracle
Experience with Git/GitLab version control
Experience with CMS platforms such as Joomla, WordPress or Drupal
Basic understanding of RESTful APIs and web services
Understanding of SDLC and software testing principles
Experience with Linux environments, Bootstrap, Laravel or similar frameworks will be advantageous
