About the Role
The Graduate: Procurement Category Specialist will play a crucial supporting role within the Procurement and Supply Chain team, engaging in key procurement activities. This encompasses assisting with the development and execution of sourcing strategies, managing various procurement processes from initiation to completion, conducting in-depth analysis of spend data, and meticulously maintaining comprehensive supplier information databases. Conduct basic yet thorough market research and supplier benchmarking to ensure competitive advantage. Monitor pricing trends and broader market developments to inform strategic decisions. Help identify tangible opportunities for cost savings and significant process improvements across the supply chain. Support the preparation of professional sourcing and category management reports for senior stakeholders.
- Sourcing and Procurement Support: Provide essential administrative support for various sourcing events, including Requests for Quotation (RFQs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and formal tenders. Assist with critical supplier onboarding activities and ensure all necessary documentation is complete and compliant. Support the rigorous evaluation and comparison of supplier quotations to secure optimal value. Coordinate procurement-related meetings and facilitate effective stakeholder engagements, both internal and external. Maintain accurate procurement records, up-to-date supplier information, and robust sourcing databases. Assist Category Managers with diligent contract administration and professional supplier communications, ensuring smooth operations.
- Governance and Compliance: Ensure all procurement documentation is accurately maintained, meticulously filed, and easily retrievable for audit purposes. Support strict compliance with established procurement policies, procedures, and delegated authorities, upholding ethical standards. Assist with the precise tracking of procurement savings and the measurement of sourcing outcomes against set targets. Monitor contract expiry dates proactively and maintain comprehensive contract registers to prevent lapses. Support internal and external audit and compliance activities when required, demonstrating transparency and accountability.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and nurture productive relationships with both internal stakeholders across various departments and external suppliers, fostering a collaborative environment. Provide essential administrative and analytical support to Category Managers and Procurement Leads, contributing to team success. Participate actively in cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives, driving innovation. Requirements
Matric / Grade 12 certificate.
A Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields: Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Commerce, Operations Management, Business Process Management, Analytics, Information Technology, or an equivalent qualification.
A minimum of 1 year of experience within a Procurement or Supply Chain environment.
Demonstrated strong analytical and numerical ability.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite.
A basic understanding of procurement and supply chain principles.
Proven capability in report writing and data analysis.
Exceptional attention to detail and strong administrative skills.
High learning agility and a curious mindset.
