Facilities Assistant at Simera Sense

Simera Sense is seeking a dedicated and proactive Facilities Assistant to join their team in Somerset West. The Facilities Assistant will be responsible for a range of maintenance, repair, and general upkeep duties, contributing significantly to a safe, functional, and pleasant workplace for all employees. Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections and maintenance repairs on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and lighting.
• Execute preventative maintenance duties throughout the facility to ensure optimal functioning.
• Monitor, coordinate, and inspect work performed by external contractors, ensuring quality and compliance.
• Assist the Facilities Manager in sourcing and managing external contractors for specialized tasks.
• Test and maintain the facility’s security and safety systems, ensuring they are fully operational.
• Report regularly to the Facilities Manager on resolved issues, those needing attention, and ongoing projects.
• Assist with ensuring the facility complies with all health and safety regulations, including conducting regular risk assessments.
• Support the implementation of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Assist in managing building infrastructure and services to meet employee needs effectively.
• Set up workspaces for new hires, including desks and other necessary equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of common areas, restrooms, and outdoor spaces.
• Assist with office moves and the setup of conference rooms for meetings and events.
• Perform other assigned duties to support overall facility management.

• Higher Certificate in Plumbing and/or Electrical.
• Previous experience in a facility assistant role.
• Maintenance experience in Facilities/Estates/Corporate Buildings or grounds.
• Familiarity with health and safety regulations and compliance.
• Experience in gardening/grounds maintenance.
• Experience working on domestic electrical installations, basic plumbing, painting, tiling and general building repairs.
• Proven experience as a maintenance worker.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
• Willingness to work weekends and after hours, depending on operational needs.
• Valid Driver’s License.
