Job Description
Babylonstoren, a renowned wine estate and working farm, is seeking a dedicated Cellar Assistant to join its esteemed winemaking team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for viticulture and a desire to contribute to the production of high-quality wines. As a Cellar Assistant, you will be involved in various aspects of the winemaking process, from general cellar operations to assisting with bottling and labelling. This position requires a hands-on approach, attention to detail, and a willingness to work collaboratively within a dynamic agricultural and hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of wine cellar activities, including cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance of cellar equipment and facilities.
- Execute general cellar work such as racking, blending, filtering, and transferring wine under the guidance of the winemakers.
- Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations and maintain impeccable housekeeping standards in accordance with audit compliance.
- Assist actively with bottling and labelling operations, ensuring precision and quality control.
- Operate and maintain cellar machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Monitor fermentation processes and assist with wine treatments as required.
- Participate in stock management and inventory control of cellar supplies and finished products.
- Contribute to a positive and productive team environment, supporting colleagues as needed.
- Be prepared to work overtime, night shifts, and over weekends when operational requirements demand, especially during harvest season.

Requirements
- Grade 12.
- 2β3 years' relevant experience in a cellar environment.
- Valid forklift licence will be to your advantage.
- SKOP 1, 2 and 3 will be to your advantage.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the winemaking process.
- Willingness to work overtime, night shift and over weekends when operationally required.
