Job Description
As an Artisan Gr2 Mechanical Fitter at Sasol, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and improving the operational efficiency and safety of plant machinery and equipment. This position involves hands-on mechanical work, troubleshooting, and contributing to a proactive maintenance strategy within a dynamic industrial environment. You will be responsible for ensuring that all mechanical systems operate optimally, adhering to stringent safety standards and contributing to the overall reliability of Sasol's operations. This role offers the chance to apply advanced mechanical fitting skills in a large-scale industrial setting, working with complex machinery and contributing to critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and improve safety requirements across all mechanical tasks.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards and adhere strictly to waste disposal procedures.
- Share valuable knowledge and expertise with junior artisans within established contexts.
- Actively participate in quarterly performance appraisals with the group leader to foster personal development.
- Identify personal training and development needs, incorporating them into a Personal Development Plan (PDP) with group leader approval.
- Lead by example, demonstrating commitment and adherence to company values and standards.
- Assist in the development of comprehensive work instructions to enhance staff competency levels.
- Take a proactive lead in team efforts and assigned tasks.
- Potentially act as a group leader, aligning with career progression paths.
- Contribute significantly to the overall maintenance strategy and its direction.
- Informally mentor learners and other artisans, guiding their professional growth.
- Conduct My IMS (physical inspections) to ensure and improve plant sustainability.
- Work effectively and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Attend and actively participate in PDAs (Problem-Solving Discussions) and RCAs (Root Cause Analyses) to enhance plant safety and stability.
- Provide timely and adequate feedback to the group leader or planning officer regarding work progress.
- Ensure accurate history feedback is captured to facilitate renewals, upgrades, and the replacement of critical spares.
- Provide valuable input during toolbox talks to further improve plant safety protocols.

- Matric/N3 with Maths, English and Physical Science
- Occupational Trade Qualification/Certificate (Mechanical Red Seal)
- Experience: 3+ relevant years
- Valid SA Drivers License
