Graduate Risk Intern at Premier

Premier is offering a 12-month Graduate Risk Internship opportunity at their Salt River Bakery in Cape Town, Western Cape. This programme is designed for motivated individuals seeking self-development and a commitment to learning within the health, safety, and food safety domains. The intern will play a crucial role in coordinating and supporting health, safety, and food safety initiatives, ensuring the company complies with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines and Food Safety standards to minimise work-related injuries and maintain compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and implement SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) policies and programs.

• Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics.

• Prepare and deliver educational seminars and webinars on safety topics.

• Review existing policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness and compliance.

• Ensure all employees adhere to company rules and regulations regarding safety.

• Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement preventative measures.

• Identify process bottlenecks and propose timely solutions to improve safety protocols.

• Oversee workplace repairs, installations, and any other activities that could pose a safety risk.

• Update raw material risk assessments in liaison with the Head Office Food Safety Officer.

• Prepare and present comprehensive reports on accidents, violations, and their root causes.

• Collaborate with HR to establish a robust onboarding process for new employees focusing on safety.

• Ensure adherence to business policies, procedures, and processes.

• Advanced Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety OR Advanced Diploma in Risk Management/Safety Management.

• Knowledge of SHE (Safety, Health, Environmental) legislation in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental, and Food Safety.

• Advantageous: NEBOSH qualification and/or an Environmental course.

• Skills: Accuracy and attention to detail, analytical thinking and problem-solving, strong communication and teamwork abilities, and a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
