Responsibilities and Duties
Successful applicants will perform tasks related to:
- Responding to firefighting incidents
- Emergency rescue services
- Rendering basic medical care
- Fire prevention activities
- Training activities
- Operating firefighting equipment and apparatus
- Maintaining firefighting equipment
- Maintaining fire station facilities
- Supporting related fire and rescue work under supervision
The duties are performed to protect the lives and property of residents in accordance with the Fire Brigade Services Act, Act 99 of 1987.
Special Conditions
Applicants must be physically fit and able-bodied. The physical requirements of the post mean that applicants must have no cardiac or respiratory anomalies. All applicants will be subjected to physical fitness tests as part of the selection process.

Requirements
- Grade 12
- Proof of completion of an FF1 course
- Must be medically, physically and mentally fit
- Must have no criminal record
- Must reside in the Stellenbosch Municipal Area
- Must remain a resident in the Stellenbosch Municipal Area for the duration of employment
- Must submit proof of address and affidavit
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills
- Ability to communicate in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape Province: English, Afrikaans and Xhosa
- Good health
- No mental phobias related to confined spaces, heights, depths, water, blood, darkness, isolation or corpses
- Added Advantage: Valid Code B driver’s licence
