Job Description
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is currently seeking a highly motivated Programme Support Intern for its HIV and Health Group in Pretoria. This role is specifically focused on the #WeBelongAfrica (WBA) programme, which advocates for the rights and inclusion of LGBTI+ people and young key populations across sub-Saharan Africa.
The intern will join the HIV and Health Group (HHG) to support the #WeBelongAfrica initiative. This programme works to strengthen dialogue between state entities and marginalized communities to improve legal and policy environments. You will play a key role in public advocacy, research, and event management.
Key responsibilities include tracking programme deliverables, drafting meeting reports and concept notes, and monitoring LGBTI+ inclusion issues across priority African countries. You will also work closely with the communications team to create social media content, human interest stories, and programme briefs. This is a fast-paced role requiring sensitivity to human rights issues and the ability to engage with a wide range of international partners.
Requirements
Education: Candidates must meet one of the following:
Currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree.
Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree.
Graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a Master’s degree or equivalent.
Language: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
Competencies:
Strong understanding of LGBTI+ and young key population issues in developing countries.
Excellent research, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
Proficiency in MS Office/365.
Cultural, gender, and religious sensitivity.
Logistics: Must provide proof of health insurance and obtain necessary visas (if applicable).
