As a Data Science Intern at Teraco, you will be embedded in a high-performance analytics team working across Data Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Business Intelligence — contributing to live projects that directly shape how Africa's leading data centre operates and grows. You will work with large-scale datasets, develop predictive models, build and deploy AI solutions, and create dashboards that inform strategic business decisions — all under the mentorship of experienced data and technology professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines

• Incorporate best practices for managing big data — high volume, high velocity, and high variety datasets

• Ensure data quality, integrity, and accessibility across systems

Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

• Build and deploy AI and machine learning models aligned to real business challenges

• Apply MLOps best practices across the full model lifecycle — data preparation, model training, feature selection, evaluation, model selection, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance

Business Intelligence & Analytics

• Gather, clean, and analyse data from multiple sources to generate actionable insights

• Develop visualisations, dashboards, and reports to communicate findings to business stakeholders

• Support strategic decision-making with data-driven recommendations

Salary: R15,000 – R20,000 per month (Salary not specified by employer — estimated based on South African data science internship market rates in the technology sector, 2025/2026)

• Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field (completed or in final year)

• Basic to intermediate programming skills in Python, R, or SQL

• Foundational understanding of statistical methods and machine learning algorithms

• Matric / Grade 12 Certificate

• South African citizen

• No criminal record

• Comfortable working fully in-office at Isando, Johannesburg, throughout the week

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Good written and verbal communication skills — able to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
