St Peter's Prep Schools, one of Johannesburg North's most respected and forward-thinking independent Anglican schools, is inviting passionate young South Africans to apply for its highly regarded Teacher Internship Programme 2026 β starting January 2026 at their Paulshof campus.
This is one of South Africa's most unique and career-transforming teacher development programmes. Unlike standard internships, the St Peter's Teacher Internship Programme provides successful candidates with a fully funded, 4-year B.Ed. Foundation Phase degree through the University of Johannesburg (UJ) β while simultaneously placing you in a real classroom every single day alongside experienced, professional St Peter's teachers.
You will learn, grow, and teach simultaneously β building the competence, confidence, and values needed to become an exceptional Foundation Phase educator from day one. Interns are also exposed to alternative teaching environments through St Peter's Community Partnership Programme β ensuring a well-rounded educational and social development experience.
The programme is 100% funded by the St Peter's Foundation β a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO). All donations to the programme are eligible for 100% BEE and CSI allocation.
Upon completion, interns have the freedom to teach in any community of their choice β whether independent schools, government schools, or other educational institutions β with a full B.Ed. qualification and 4 years of real classroom experience behind them.

Programme Structure β 4 Key Focus Areas
1. Ways of Learning Academic qualification β successful completion of a 4-year Bachelor of Education degree through the University of Johannesburg
2. Classroom Experience Daily hands-on experience in the classroom, guided by experienced St Peter's Prep teachers β building teaching ability, confidence, and professional practice from day one
3. Community Partnership Exposure to alternative teaching environments through St Peter's Community Partnership Programme β broadening understanding of diverse South African classroom contexts
4. Values and Character Building the maturity, emotional resilience, and professional ethics needed to handle the demands of teaching in South African schools
Key Responsibilities
Be present in the classroom daily alongside your St Peter's mentor teacher
Assist with lesson delivery, classroom management, and learner support
Develop and refine teaching skills across the Foundation Phase (Grade R to Grade 3)
Complete all academic requirements of the 4-year UJ B.Ed. degree
Participate in the Community Partnership Programme and engage with diverse learning environments
Reflect on teaching practice and implement feedback from mentors throughout the programme
Uphold the professional standards and values of St Peter's Prep Schools at all time
Requirements
Valid Matric / Grade 12 National Senior Certificate with Bachelor's Pass (Degree exemption)
APS score of 26 or above (excluding Life Orientation)
English as Home Language β minimum Level 5 (60%), OR English as First Additional Language β minimum Level 6 (70%)
Competence in English and at least one other South African official language
Genuine passion for Foundation Phase teaching β Grades R to 3 (ages 5β9)
South African citizen
