Job Description
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) β South Africa's central bank and one of the country's most prestigious and influential financial institutions β is inviting talented postgraduate graduates to apply for its 2027 Graduate Development Programme, commencing February 2027 at the SARB Head Office in Pretoria.
The SARB serves the economic well-being of South Africans through maintaining price and financial stability. It is responsible for the regulation of the South African financial sector, the design and distribution of banknotes and coin, the management of interest rates, setting the cash reserve requirement for banks, and ensuring the stability of both the banking sector and the wider financial system.
Graduates will work and learn at the SARB Head Office from February 2027 to January 2028. They will be assigned to a department and exposed to various tasks and projects. During the Programme, graduates will attend various learning interventions at the SARB Academy. Interventions are mainly specific to central banking and are aimed at producing well-rounded central bankers.
Beyond technical training, graduates develop essential professional skills including assertive communication, public speaking, impactful reporting, and personal excellence. At the end of the programme, some graduates will be permanently appointed into a department of the SARB β those most likely to be appointed are graduates who are interested in continuing their career at the SARB and have a desire to contribute to monetary policy, financial stability, currency management, supervising financial institutions, and financial markets.

Key Responsibilities
Be assigned to a specific SARB department and contribute to real tasks and projects
Conduct research, policy analysis, and economic modelling as directed
Attend structured learning interventions at the SARB Academy for approximately 40 days during the programme
Participate in central banking-specific training covering monetary policy, financial regulation, and financial markets
Develop professional skills including communication, presentations, reporting, and teamwork
Demonstrate alignment with SARB values in all work and interactions
Salary: R20,000 β R28,000 per month (Salary not specified β SARB states "market-related remuneration and benefits commensurate with the level of the position")

Requirements
NQF Level 8 Honours Degree or Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field
Minimum final year average of over 65%
South African citizen
Currently unemployed
Demonstrated behaviours aligned to the SARB's values of accountability, excellence, integrity, respect, trust, and open communication
Strong desire to work in financial services and/or policymaking
Excellent analytical, research, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
