This is one of the most sought-after short-form internship opportunities available to South African finance students and recent graduates. As a winter intern in Rothschild & Co's Global Advisory (M&A) division, you will be immersed in live transaction work β working directly alongside senior bankers on mergers, acquisitions, and strategic financing mandates for large corporations, private equity firms, governments, and sovereign wealth funds across Africa and globally.

Key Responsibilities
Work simultaneously on multiple live transactions across various industry sectors within the M&A team
Develop and maintain standard and bespoke financial models in Excel
Apply a range of valuation methodologies to support client advisory β including Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), trading comparables, transaction comparables, and LBO-based valuations
Coordinate and support preparation of marketing and transaction documentation including client presentations, information memoranda, and offering documents
Research relevant industries to support the team's transaction pipeline using sources including Factset and Bloomberg
Identify new business opportunities and strategic ideas for clients that advance their objectives
Support the project team in coordinating all aspects of transactions, both internally and with external advisers

Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or higher (strictly open to final year students or recent graduates only)
Strong academic performance throughout university
Genuine interest and passion for corporate finance, M&A, and investment banking
Very strong analytical and numerical skills
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office β particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Familiarity with financial research databases such as Factset and Bloomberg is advantageous
Fluent in English β written and verbal
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Diligent, ambitious, and committed to delivering excellence under tight deadlines
Knowledge of the financial and regulatory environment surrounding M&A transactions
