Job Description
Electrum Software, one of South Africa's most innovative and respected next-generation payments technology companies, is offering a Product Support Engineer Internship at their Cape Town office in Observatory.
Since 2012, Electrum has delivered enterprise-grade, cloud-native software that optimises the processing of millions of financial transactions daily β powering payment solutions for some of South Africa's biggest household brands. Their technology enables financial inclusion by giving millions of South Africans easier, cheaper access to digital payments and financial services.
This paid, 4-week, in-office winter internship is designed for technically curious students and graduates who want to experience what real-world product support engineering looks like inside a leading B2B FinTech company. You will work on real projects, interact directly with customers, and be assigned a dedicated mentor who sets aside most of their time to guide you through your work β essentially providing one-on-one career coaching every day.

Key Responsibilities
Investigate and resolve production issues and customer-reported technical problems within Electrum's payment processing systems
Perform root cause analysis on recurring technical issues and document findings clearly
Assist with monitoring and maintaining the performance of Electrum's payment software and integrations
Support the product and engineering teams with technical queries, bug investigations, and system analysis
Help with onboarding and configuration tasks for new clients on Electrum's platform
Write and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and support runbooks
Collaborate closely with software developers, product managers, and customer teams to escalate and resolve issues efficiently
Participate in team meetings, onboarding workshops, and learning sessions about Electrum's products and payment ecosystems
Advantageous
Familiarity with Java or another object-oriented programming language
Exposure to Linux/Unix environments
Experience with monitoring or logging tools
Knowledge of financial systems, payment rails, or transaction processing
Basic understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts

Requirements
Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field
Solid understanding of software systems and how web-based applications work
Basic familiarity with SQL and database querying
Understanding of APIs and how system integrations function (REST APIs advantageous)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English β able to explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Proactive, self-driven, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
