Lancet Laboratories is offering a valuable Pre-Analytical Internship Programme for 2026. This opportunity is designed for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in a laboratory setting, specifically within the pre-analytical phase of pathology sample processing. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Pre-Analytical team by meticulously assisting with the sorting, registration, and distribution of pathology samples. Ensuring that specimens are processed accurately and prioritized according to established standard operating procedures (SOPs) is paramount. This role also involves contributing to the tracking of sample progress and maintaining a clean and organized work environment, providing a comprehensive introduction to laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the accurate sorting and efficient distribution of pathology samples to various laboratories or sites, adhering strictly to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Support the registration process of samples, often referred to as “logging”, and respond to basic inquiries under supervision, following all defined SOPs.
Receive incoming samples and meticulously verify that the sample information aligns with the data recorded in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), as per SOPs.
Prepare and accurately scan patient forms onto the laboratory scanning system (Occulus), ensuring compliance with all SOPs.
Assist in the dispatching of specimens for further processing and actively monitor courier progress to guarantee the timely delivery and subsequent processing of samples.
Uphold professional customer care principles, interacting ethically and professionally with medical staff and other relevant stakeholders.
Perform essential housekeeping duties, including the preparation and cleaning of IT equipment, in strict accordance with SOPs.

Requirements
Grade 12 or relevant NQF level 4 qualification
BSc Degree is advantageous
0-1 years of relevant working experience
Computer literate
Familiarity with laboratory information systems
Understanding of organisational policy and procedures
Ability to cope with nervous/distressed patients
Ability to work effectively in a pressured environment
Strong teamwork capabilities
Proficient administrative skills
