Job Description
The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Group Legal and Contracts Department is offering an exciting Paralegal Internship opportunity to suitably qualified and unemployed graduates. This program is designed to provide valuable hands-on experience within a municipal legal environment, running for a period not exceeding eighteen (18) months. The intern will play a crucial role in rendering comprehensive legal assistance, contributing to the preparation and filing of documents, report writing, and undertaking legal research. This role is essential for evaluating and assessing legal matters instituted against the City, ensuring that legal claims are minimized and the council's interests are legally protected.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal assistance and administrative support to the Group Legal and Contracts Department and Municipal Entities (MEs).
Perform tasks associated with general office support and telephonic services.
Assist in managing the litigation management unit by executing specific instructions and applying laid down procedures.
Coordinate the Litigation office by interacting with directors, deputy directors, legal advisors, external legal practitioners, and other service providers regarding document processing.
Arrange and attend meetings for the litigation management unit and department, including BSCs and BECs.
Manage the litigation management administrative activities.

Requirements
A Matric/Grade 12 Certificate.
National Diploma or Degree (NQF level 6 or Higher) in Law / LLB, Legal Assistance, Paralegal, or a related field.
No experience required.
Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Good communication (verbal and written) skills.
Good people skills.
Coordination skills.
Familiarity with Litigation Management.
Understanding of court proceedings, processes, and procedures.
