Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking motivated individuals to join their team as Dispensary Support Learners. This learnership program is designed to equip successful candidates with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to complete the learner basic pharmacist assistant course. Participants will gain comprehensive exposure to the pharmaceutical environment, focusing on dispensing principles and hands-on learning. This is a fixed-term position, with the potential for permanent employment upon successful qualification and registration as a basic pharmacist assistant with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
Support the compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved Standard Operating Procedures.
Aid in unpacking, merchandising, and maintaining the cleanliness of dispensary and OTC shelves.
Accurately interpret prescriptions and act professionally within legal requirements.
Ensure precise picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication, with awareness of common dosages and drug interactions.
Verify that all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist.
Assist in stock control, including managing shelf organisation, stock rotation, and monitoring expiry dates for medicines up to Schedule 5.
Follow up with patients regarding script tracking and appointments as directed.
Handle call centre scripts and patient service telephone inquiries.
Provide health promotion information to individuals.
Assist with scheme authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication.
Report stock discrepancies, low stock levels, or errors to the dispensary manager.
Receive dispensary stock in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures.

Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics and (Physical Science or Life Science)
Must have obtained at least an average of 50%
English and 2nd language – Read, write and speak.
