The J.P. Morgan Jumpstart Programme is a structured 12-month emerging talent internship within J.P. Morgan's Commercial & Investment Bank (CIB) division — one of the world's leading investment banking, markets, and financial services businesses. As a 2027 Jumpstart Intern, you will be placed in one of J.P. Morgan's core business lines including Banking, Markets, Operations, Finance, or Technology — gaining unparalleled exposure to world-class financial services from within the South African franchise, with direct mentorship from local and global J.P. Morgan leaders.
This programme is specifically designed to bridge the gap between graduation and meaningful employment for South Africa's top graduates — providing the hands-on professional experience, technical skills, and global financial network needed to launch a high-impact career in banking and finance.
⚠️ Important: Shortlisted candidates for the 2027 Jumpstart Internship Programme will first be required to successfully complete J.P. Morgan's 3-week Winter Internship Programme during the 2026 winter university vacation period (approximately June – July 2026). This serves as the selection gateway into the full 12-month programme.
Programme Structure
Phase 1 — Winter Internship (3 Weeks | June–July 2026):
Immersive introduction to J.P. Morgan's South African franchise and global operations
Exposure to multiple business lines across CIB
Assessed and evaluated as part of the 2027 Jumpstart selection process
Phase 2 — Jumpstart Internship (12 Months | January–December 2027):
Placed in one of five business lines: Banking, Markets, Operations, Finance, or Technology
Actively participate in projects from initiation through to completion
Receive structured training and mentorship from experienced J.P. Morgan professionals
Contribute to real deliverables with direct business impact
Key Responsibilities
Perform tasks and receive training specific to your assigned placement area and business line
Actively participate in projects from start to completion and provide support across related tasks
Engage with colleagues, managers, and stakeholders in a professional financial services environment
Develop both technical and soft skills essential for a career in investment banking and financial services
Contribute to team deliverables and meet deadlines within a fast-paced, high-performance organisation
Demonstrate learning agility and professional growth throughout the programme
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or Honours in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
South African citizen
Currently unemployed (not in full-time employment at time of application)
Recent graduate — graduated within the last 2 years (2025 or 2026 graduation preferred)
Strong academic performance throughout university
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Strong time management skills with ability to adhere to strict deadlines
A genuine interest in financial services, technology, and global mar
