What UNFPA is Looking For

UNFPA is looking for candidates who are passionate about international development, sexual and reproductive health, and gender equality. The ideal intern should have strong analytical skills, the ability to work in a multicultural environment, and a commitment to the values of the United Nations.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will support the PCU with the following tasks:

• Programme Development: Support the development and implementation of Country Programmes in the East and Southern Africa region.

• Monitoring & Oversight: Assist in monitoring regional programme implementation, including budget analysis and work plan revisions.

• Knowledge Management: Prepare knowledge products such as best practices and lessons learned from UNFPA-supported interventions.

• Coordination: Help organize capacity-building sessions and document outcomes for Regional Programme Review Committees.

• Data Support: Assist in analyzing financial and programme performance using key indicators.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the participant will have gained a deep understanding of UNFPA’s mandate, regional operations, programme design mechanisms, and the dynamics of UN technical language and working procedures.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered, you must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Status:

  • Be currently enrolled in a Postgraduate degree programme (Master's or higher) in a relevant field such as International Development, Public Health, Gender Studies, or Population and Development.

  • OR have recently graduated from such a programme (within the last 12 months).

• Languages: Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of French or another UN language is an asset.

• Legal: Must have valid medical insurance for the entire duration of the internship.
