Graduate Trainee: Industrial Engineering (ISDG)
Job Description
The City of Cape Town is looking for high-potential Industrial Engineering Graduates to join their 3-year Infrastructure Skills Development Grant (ISDG) programme. This initiative is funded by the National Treasury and is specifically designed to develop technical competencies that lead to professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
As a trainee, you will work within the Corporate Services Directorate to optimize municipal processes and systems. You will participate in high-impact capital and operational projects, conduct research, and engage across multiple engineering disciplines to solve urban infrastructure challenges. The programme is highly structured, requiring you to follow a tailor-made training plan under the guidance of a professional mentor. Your primary goal over the three years is to gain the practical experience necessary to register as a Professional Engineer, Technologist, or Technician.
Requirements
Education: A completed Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BTech, B.Eng, BSc, MTech, M.Eng, MSc, or PHD in Industrial Engineering.
Age: Must be an unemployed South African graduate below the age of 35.
Professional Eligibility: Must be eligible to register with ECSA as a candidate professional (Engineer, Technologist, or Technician).
Licensing: A valid Code B (Manual) driver’s license is not mandatory but will be a significant added advantage.
Attributes: Strong research capabilities, professional report-writing skills, and a commitment to completing the full 3-year structured development programme.
Compliance: Willingness to undergo criminal, security, and personal verification checks as part of the City's recruitment process.
