Graduate Engineer: Power & Energy – SMEC South Africa
Job Description
SMEC South Africa, a member of the Surbana Jurong Group, is a global engineering consultancy renowned for delivering complex infrastructure projects. They are currently seeking a motivated Graduate Electrical Engineer to join their Power and Energy division in Cape Town.
This role is designed for newly qualified engineers who are ready to transition from academia to professional practice. You will work within a multidisciplinary team on high-impact energy projects, gaining technical expertise and mentorship from industry-leading professionals.
Key Responsibilities
As a Graduate Engineer, your day-to-day duties will include:
Technical Reporting: Drafting high-quality technical reports and documentation.
Team Collaboration: Leading or coordinating with small teams of technicians and draughtspeople.
Technical Innovation: Identifying more effective or efficient solutions to engineering challenges.
Stakeholder Engagement: Presenting technical work in meetings and to clients/stakeholders.
Project Support: Assisting senior engineers with design checks, technical reviews, and bid preparations.
Site Supervision: Inspecting construction works to ensure they align with design specifications
Requirements
To qualify for this graduate intake, you must meet the following criteria:
Education: A Bachelor of Engineering (BEng/BSc Eng) or B-Tech in Electrical Engineering from a SAQA-accredited tertiary institution.
Experience: 0–3 years of experience (Fresh graduates are highly encouraged to apply).
Skills: * Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively within a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
Professional attitude and a high level of accountability.
Advantageous: Familiarity with engineering design software (e.g., CAD or Power Systems
