Gibela Rail Transport Consortium β Africa's largest train manufacturing and passenger trains maintenance company and a strategic part of global rail giant Alstom β is inviting suitably qualified South African graduates to apply for its 24-Month Logistics Methods Engineer Graduate Programme, based at their Midrand facility in Gauteng.
Gibela's mission is central to the socio-economic transformation of South Africa β driving the revitalisation of commuter rail as the preferred mode of urban transport and manufacturing the next generation of trains for South African cities. Their Midrand campus is the hub of their industrial engineering and logistics operations β where world-class manufacturing processes, lean methodologies, and cutting-edge logistics solutions are designed and implemented daily.
As a Logistics Methods Engineer Graduate, you will report directly to a Senior Logistics Methods Engineer and gain deep, practical exposure to industrial engineering, process optimisation, logistics layout design, lean manufacturing, and digitalization β inside one of the most technically advanced manufacturing environments in Africa. This programme is your gateway into a long-term engineering career in rail manufacturing and industrial logistics.

Key Responsibilities
Process Analysis & Optimisation
Analyse existing logistics and manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities
Method Development & Standardisation
Develop, document, and standardise work methods and logistics procedures across production areas
Logistics Engineering & Layout Design
Support the design and optimisation of factory floor layouts, material flow, and storage solutions
Capacity Planning & Resource Modelling
Assist with capacity planning exercises and resource modelling to align production output with operational targets
Industrial Engineering Initiatives β Lean Manufacturing
Participate in and support lean improvement initiatives including 5S, Kaizen, and Value Stream Mapping (VSM)
Change Management & Project Implementation
Support the implementation of engineering and process improvement projects across departments
Safety, Compliance & Ergonomics
Assist in ensuring that all logistics and manufacturing activities meet safety, regulatory, and ergonomic standards
Digitalization & Automation Support
Support initiatives related to the digitalization and automation of logistics and manufacturing processes
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with production, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams to ensure seamless operations
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or Operations Management (or equivalent)
No prior work experience required (first-time entrants encouraged)
South African citizen between the ages of 18 and 35 years
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
