Job Description
The Foundation for Human Rights (FHR), a South African civil society organisation mandated to advance human rights, social justice, and constitutional democracy, is inviting qualified postgraduate graduates to apply for its 2026 Internship Programme.
FHR works with communities, civil society organisations, and government to promote the realisation of rights guaranteed in South Africa's Constitution β with a particular focus on access to justice, equality, accountability, and community empowerment. As an FHR intern, you will be embedded within the Programmes team, supporting the design, coordination, and implementation of FHR's human rights initiatives across South Africa.
This is an ideal opportunity for a postgraduate in Law, Social Sciences, or International Relations who is genuinely passionate about human rights and social change β and who wants to build meaningful professional experience inside one of South Africa's most respected civil society organisations.
Key Responsibilities
Work within one or more FHR programme teams to support the effective and timely implementation of planned activities
Provide administrative assistance to programme teams β including scheduling, documentation, correspondence, and logistics coordination
Assist with research, monitoring, and reporting functions across relevant programme areas
Support stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and civil society partnership activities
Contribute to the documentation of programme outcomes and lessons learned
Assist with the preparation of reports, briefings, and communications materials as required

Requirements
Postgraduate degree (Honours, LLB, LLM, Masters, or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Law, International Relations, Development Studies, Human Rights, or a related discipline
Working knowledge of, and genuine commitment to, social justice and a human rights-based approach to social change
Strong ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Legal right to work in South Africa (SA citizens, permanent residents, or holders of a valid work permit)
