Job Description
The Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA) is seeking to appoint a Communications Intern. This 1-year fixed-term contract opportunity is ideal for unemployed graduates with a qualification in Communication, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a Science-related field. The intern will gain invaluable hands-on experience within a leading scientific research organisation, contributing to the vital role of effective communication in science and health. The successful candidate will be based at CAPRISA's Head Office in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and will become an integral part of the Communications team.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Communications Manager in responding to media and stakeholder queries.
Assist in the planning and execution of internal and external events, focusing on brand awareness and marketing material design.
Maintain and update content accuracy on CAPRISA’s website and social media platforms.
Track and archive media coverage through designated media monitoring services.
Provide essential administrative support to the Communications Department.
Contribute to the development of communication materials for various audiences and platforms.
Compile information for the monthly newsletter.

Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a Science related field.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Demonstrated interest in communications, media, public relations and/or science.
Basic knowledge of design and multimedia tools will be advantageous.
An understanding of the difference between communications and marketing, the NGO sector and public health matters will be advantageous.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Attention to detail, a highly organised planner and deadline orientated.
Good Interpersonal skills.
Ability to work both independently and with multidisciplinary teams across the organisation.
Enthusiastic and willingness to learn and grow.
