Allan Gray, South Africa's largest privately-owned investment management company and one of Africa's most respected financial institutions, is inviting applications for the 2027 cohort of its prestigious SAIT Tax Trainee Learnership Programme β based at their iconic 1 Silo offices at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
This is a structured 36-month tax learnership designed to build an exceptional pipeline of South African tax professionals from within the business. As a tax trainee, you will rotate primarily through three dedicated tax-focused teams β Group Tax, Shared Services Tax, and Institutional Operations Tax β while also gaining broader exposure in Group Finance, Retail Finance, and in third year, specialist business areas such as Product Development, Operations Analytics, Risk, and Assurance.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare and review corporate tax returns for companies, trusts, and collective investment schemes within the Allan Gray Group
Gather financial information, calculate taxable income, and verify deductions, exclusions, and tax credits against prevailing tax legislation
Support internal and external stakeholders through client service teams on tax-related matters concerning Allan Gray products and services
Participate in tax planning and implementation strategy projects affecting Allan Gray products, collective investment schemes, and local and offshore legal entities
Assist in tax monitoring reviews and risk assessments
Conduct ongoing tax research and analysis on South African and international tax developments
Stay current with the latest tax regulations, legislation, and industry trends
Attend and actively participate in training programmes, seminars, and professional development activities
Rotation Structure
Years 1 & 2: Rotations through Group Tax, Shared Services Tax, and Institutional Operations Tax; with exposure to Group and Retail Finance
Year 3: Elective rotations available through specialist teams including Product Development, Operations Analytics, Risk, and Assurance
Requirements
Currently completing or have already completed a Postgraduate Degree or Diploma in Taxation (Honours or equivalent β NQF Level 8)
Academic average for both Matric and University higher than 70%
Completed Core Mathematics on Higher Grade with a minimum of 70% for Mathematics and English at Matric level
Eligible to work in South Africa (no visa sponsorship offered)
Strong analytical and research skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Self-motivated with strong professional commitment and work ethic
